  • Job Summary  
    The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood collection procedures on patients of all ages, including newborns. This role requires expertise in pediatric phlebotomy techniques such as heel sticks for bilirubin testing, as well as strong communication and patient care skills. The position is full-time, with hours from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures, including heel sticks for newborn patients.
    2. Collect and properly label specimens for laboratory testing.
    3. Ensure accurate documentation of patient information and specimen details.
    4. Provide compassionate care and reassurance to patients and families during procedures.
    5. Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the phlebotomy area.
    6. Follow established protocols for specimen handling, storage, and transport.
    7. Collaborate with nursing and laboratory staff to ensure timely and accurate testing.
    8. Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines.

    Required Qualifications
    1. High school diploma or GED.
    2. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
    3. Current certification or licensure as required by state regulations.
    4. Experience performing pediatric phlebotomy, including heel sticks.
    5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    6. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
    7. Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Prior experience working in a hospital or pediatric care setting.
    2. Familiarity with bilirubin testing procedures.

    Certifications
    1. Phlebotomy certification (state or national, as applicable).
    2. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
