  • JOB SUMMARY
    Performs a variety of technical duties to assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients. Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards. Maintains aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique. Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy. Transports patients to and from the Operating Room suite. Positions patients according to the type of surgery. Identifies and cares for biological specimens. Prepares the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to type of case. Under the direction of a professional nurse, performs processes related to the delivery of direct patient care and assistance care in the OR prior to and during any surgical procedure.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Establishes and maintains the sterile field, passes instruments, and sutures to the physician, and assists as directed.
    • Uses the physician preference card as a guide when pulling cases and setting up the OR.
    • Ensures that preference cards are kept up to date and as complete as possible.
    • Works effectively as a member of the patient care team.
    • Cooperates in team planning and execution.
    • Maintains a safe environment by implementing technical and aseptic practices.
    • Demonstrates clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
    • Adheres to Universal Barrier Precautions for patient and own safety.
    • Monitors and controls the surgical environment, maintaining proper traffic control, dress codes, and OR sanitation policies and procedures.
    • Familiar with facility policies and procedures regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilization of instruments and supplies.
    • Performs assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served.
    • Adapts patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and developmental needs of each patient.
    • Transports patients to and from the Operating Room suite.
    • Transports biological specimens.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Schedule / Shift
    • 4 Days - 10 Hours

    Required Qualifications
    • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
    • Completion of a Surgical Technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program is required.
    • BLS via AHA required.
    • Certified Surgical Technologist or LVN/LPN License required.

    Experience
    • 2 or more years of experience preferred.

    Skills
    • Proficiently scrub 3 specialty areas is highly preferred (e.g., Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Neurology, Titanium Rib, Robotics).

    Floating / On-Call
    • Floating is required.
    • On-call is required.
    • Weekend requirements are in effect.
